So, I have to confess. I have never made a lemon meringue pie before today. Super easy right. Except I think in the time it took me to make meringue I could have painted the Sistine Chapel and conceived and birthed a baby. Who in their right mind came up with this idea?
Hmmmm, I'm only gonna use half of this egg beat it sensless, add some sugar and beat it until I am almost dead, at which time I will bake it slightly until it turns brown. At this time I will die and leave my successor the recipe to this delicious confection. Have fun. Make often and think of me...
Now that I think of it, most food is like that. Who in their right mind thought, gee this green hairy ball looks delicious, let's have a bite. Mmmmm, kiwi.
Seriously though - meringue takes FOREVER. Of course since I had never made it, I used my hand mixer. Which after having a smoke is taking a nap. As soon as the travel agents open on Tuesday I'm gonna buy it a vacation to the bahamas.

My Grandmother Busboom (Chett's greatgrandmother) could make unbelievable meringue pies! Her sour cream raisin were the best - she left me the recipe, but hey, I have even less talent making them than you portray in your blog. I guess we just get the pies in the face - whipped cream, not meringue, ha.
Sour cream raisin sounds disgusting! I would take her recioe for meringue though. I just used the recipe on the cook and serve lemon jell-o box. By the way, I never said my meringue didn't turn out or wasn't delicious. ;)
I apologize! I reread it and you don't say it didn't turn out good. I foolishly inferred that and I'm sorry for that half-baked response.
Sour cream raisin was GREAT! Grandma ground up the raisins so they were little specks in the sour cream. She had to do that, I guess, because my mom hated raisins and wouldn't eat the pie otherwise. Larry hates coconut (or thinks he does) so Grandma would grind it up in some of her cookies and he'd eat them like crazy - not knowing there was coconut.
Sometime I'll see if I can find her recipe and, hopefully the meringue is on it as well as the pie.
